I know, it is now over 1 month since I last posted but this time the initial excuse is almost 4 weeks with friends back in UK and a lack of good internet/computer access. I took with me an old Acer Laptop which seems to be so slow that it would barely get out of first gear. I had considered for sometime to upgrade to the tablet era and get into the modern age....... Well our first port of call was with Roger and Jill in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Joan and I had never been up to this area before and were really overwelmed by how lovely this area is. Jill and Roger live in a lovely bungalow, close to a woodland trust walking area.23rd April 6

I think Roger misses the space he had here in their TRNC villa but he is settled there with regular gigs with three different bands. We went with him one evening to hear the Apha Swing Band, which was really very good and maybe it is our age, but very much our style of music.

Roger had organised for an evening out at a local Chinese were it is a sort of all you can eat style menu. George and Susan, also ex-TRNC, joined us together with Jill's sister and her husband. A very good evening, with good food and company.

Joan has been having a lovely time in places like Dunelm, Outlet centres etc so guess we will be happy that we have a good baggage allowance on Blue Air flights. Must confess to joining her by buying a Samsung Tablet and now I am getting used to the change. Seemed like the sensible buy as I personally have a Samsung Smartphone, we have a Samsung TV with a built in computer thing, so at least they should all be able to communicate.

After a great week in Derbyshire, Roger took us to Derby itself to collect our hire car and then we drove down to Lee-on-Solent to stay in Norman's apartment block for the next 6 days.

We had a super few days with him and one day we went into Gosport so that Joan could meet up with Angela and have lunch, whist Norman and I took off to the cinema. Norman had also booked tickets to got to the theatre in Gosport one evening, guess what it was a a swing band group called " The Temperance Seven". Hands up anyone who remembers to original group from the early sixties. Great music once again and these old guys really pulled it off.

On our last day with Norman we had been promised some nice weather so we all went off to the IOW on a ferry. We spent time in Osborne House, previously occupied of course by Queen Victoria and Albert together with their 9 children. After spending considerable time there we then hopped back on a bus that took us to the Donket Sanctuary, which Joan of course wanted to go to. Here is another guessing game for you, why would you expect us to come away from there having adopted a Donkey, Not really a difficult guess but anyway this is Maisy, who will now get a monthly contribution to her food bill from us !!!!!!

Maisy at IOW

From Norman's place we drove along the coast to join Jill and Les in New Romney for the final leg of our trip. We had to go there because between the four of us we had accumulated £97.00 of lottery winnings which were planned to be spent at The Bell Inn, Ivychurch.

We had a great 10 days with our old Romney friend's there, trying out the new real ale pub in the high street and of course The Curry Lounge for our last evening, befoe Les's unpteenth birthday. He won't let me say how many it really is.

All in all a very enjoyable , almost four weeks in UK. It is good to go back there now and again, Joan especially enjoys the shopping bits and I the good real ale and of course some of Les's home brew.
