After the clinic visit this evening, Joan and I went to the Cabin Restaurant, which is staying open in its smaller spot all winter. Ilhan, the owner was there and said he had brought in some special fish for this evening and we were to try it. Now Joan always panics at the thought of getting bones in her mouth from fish so I thought doubtful. However she was persuaded by Ilhan and his chef turned up with some tiny fish called Hamsi, which are in fact Anchovy but not salted as we normally get them. These had been cooked on a BBQ grill together with four large Sardines each. We decided that the only thing to do was eat all this mostly with our fingers, the Hamsi you pick up by the tail, eat whole and give the tail to the resident cat. The sardines we also took the flesh off with our fingers and gave the heads to the cat, which was delicious and the cat thought so too. Surprise, surprise, Joan said that was absolutely superb, maybe she is being converted, but a bit late in life.!!!
